Why Shopify, GA4, Meta and Google all show different revenue

Four systems can show four different revenue numbers without all four being broken. They are often measuring different things.

Shopify is the order ledger

Shopify records the transactions processed by the store. That is usually the best starting point for "How much did the store sell?"

Ad platforms report attributed revenue

Meta and Google assign credit according to their own interactions, attribution windows and models. The same order can therefore appear in both platforms.

GA4 has its own collection and attribution

Consent, browser restrictions, session definitions and implementation can affect what GA4 sees. It may also assign channel credit differently from Google Ads.

Example

Shopify: $100,000 revenue.

Meta: $60,000 attributed.

Google Ads: $55,000 attributed.

GA4 paid-channel revenue: another figure.

Adding the platform numbers does not create extra orders. Some revenue overlaps.

Use each system for the right question

Shopify: actual store transactions.

Platforms: campaign optimization and platform attribution.

Cross-channel attribution: comparing marketing contribution with a consistent methodology.

The mistake is expecting identical numbers from systems designed to answer different questions.
